So it's time to start the predictions for the up-and-coming season. Who will be left at the top of each District and who will win it all?

I'm so excited about our season this year at Page. Looking forward to playing new schools in our district, and with the improvement of quite a few of our girls this winter, THIS year belongs to the Patriots.

I, too, am excited about the Page team. With some new players joining the upperclassmen, I look for a more competitive regular season in AA along with the weekend tournaments. It is much too early to make any predictions since I haven't seen any teams so I'll post more later on that.

all you Page supporters better watch out for RedBank...they made it to the semi-finals of 3A last year and are dropping down a level this year. they have 5 or 6 kids returning and should be really tough.

Anyone have any thoughts about A-AA District 9 this year?

they have broken out the A-AA bracket this year and I can't speak much to the AA district 9.
I would venture a guess that Nashville Christian has something up their sleeve though from all the chatter....watch out for them to make a turn around

Nashville Christian does have a few girls that bring a lot to the court. Hopefully with different vision and guidance this upcoming year there will be exciting things in their future.

Cookeville High School was in the State tournament last season. After losing 6 seniors from last season, they have 6 returning varsity players including 6'1 middle hitter Skimmyhorn, 6'3 middle Dodd, outside hitter Brooks and setter Oliphant. Cookeville is entering into a new district but should be quite competitive next season.

i agree. i have heard great things about Cookeville and can't wait to watch them play. i think Ravenwood definitely has the talent edge on Brentwood this year, but it is still too early to tell. Page should be the clear favorite in Division AA but watch out for some of the teams from Chattanooga....they have strong clubs down there and we could see a big upset.

here are my predictions early into the season...you can call me Nostro for short if all this works out:
AAA 1) Ravenwood 2) Brentwood 3) Ooltewah 4) Anderson County
AA 1) Red Bank or Page (can't decide yet) 2) the other one
A 1) Nashville Christian - obviously!

i like the rankings, but would add Dobyns Bennet to the AAA list....they are currently 27-0
and Boyd Buchanan is the ONLY team in the A division - that's it

After watching a LOT of tournament volleyball this year, I feel like I can finally speak intelligently about the teams that I have seen. Please remember that these are observations taken from a small sample of tournament matches. I tried to remain as unbiased as possible....
AAA In my opinion this is basically a 2 horse race between Ravenwood and Dobyns Bennet. While Ravenwood would probably be considered the favorite at this time, I would not count out the DB team in the least. Both teams are extremely well coached (by Tracey Berry and Kathi Shaffer), both have smart setters, 1 outstanding middle, and 1 outstanding outside. All the other positions are solid on both teams, but I would have to give the initial nod to Ravenwood in this regard. I would, however, have to give Dobyns Bennet the nod for best setter (in the State in my opinion), although Alyssa Ivey is very good without a doubt.
AA Once again, a 2 team race between Red Bank and Page. Sorry, but everyone else is just playing for 3rd place. The talent/skill advantage is going to have to go to Page (with Nicole Smith and Molly Locke), but Red Bank has 2 great outsides as well (Kalyn Helton and Courtney Lawson). Both teams are very similar in that they set the Outside 80% of the time but with those hitters, who wouldn't? I think this is going to be the most exciting match of the State Tournament, and I predicted this since they announced the new classifications.
A I have seen very little of the A division (even though I coach in that division). From what I have heard, though, apparently this year it will be Boyd Buchanan and everyone else. I have yet to see them play, but their record speaks for itself. Also stay tuned for Signal Mountain to make a good push and watch for Nashville Christian to make a run as well.
